Thursday 09-03-10 Watermelon, Watermelon...

Sorry for not posting earlier today, but it was a day from hell.  We closed the office at 3:00 today and it was busy all day.  I am glad that I have 3 days off and I am going to relax and enjoy myself this weekend.  As you can see by the title of my blog today I am having a hard time trying to find watermelons.  I went by Walmart and did not find one, so I checked Kroger and still no watermelon.  I stopped at a fruit stand on my way to Deer Camp and they had several.  I paid get ready for this $8.00 for a watermelon, I like to have stroked out.   I also picked up several cantaloupes while I was there and they were excellent.    Here is a picture of what I brought, and I almost had to get a loan to get them.  By, by casino money for this weekend...

I had a great day on my eating and I am trying to cut my points down even more, although you are suppose to eat all your points.   I read an article today that said that a pound is 3500 calories.  Can you believe that, I like to blew a gasket when I read that.  So to lose one lb you have to cut back 3500 calories, is this right.  Some of you bloggers out there who count calories, I would appreciate it if you would confirm this for me.   I love reading all those magazines that tell you how to lose weight or have a new diet for you to try.   Here is a few that really got my attention.

1. Super soybeans cut fat storage in half.   Now this is suppose to be an amped-up soybean created by the University of Illinois scientists.  A soy bean developed by scientists.  Lets get real people..

2. Trim down with vinegar.   With this one you take 2 tsp. a day of any vinegar for six weeks.  You can mix it with salad dressing.  Now this one claims to reduce body weight by up to 10%.

3. Lose weight by packing on more fat.  Now this one is my favorite of all.  It says that not all fat is created equal.  There is white fat - the regular fat that stores extra calories, then there is brown fat which is suppose to be what our bodies use to burn calories.

The list goes on and on, but these were the ones that I thought were the most funniest ones that I read.  There is always a gimmick out there that will make you lose weight or burn more fat.  I have tried my share of gimmicks also.  I have tried just about every diet pill, quick weight loss scheme that came along.  I honestly believe that there is no quick fix and pill that will magically take the weight away.  Cause lets face it if there were I would sell my house, car and trade my hubby.  Well maybe not my car anyway..   It is a nice thought though to just be able to take a pill and wake up skinny, but it is not happening.  So I take it one week at a time, one pound at a time.   This blog has been my saving grace, because I can write about my weight loss and discuss it without anyone judging me.

Okay well I am off to clean the kitchen and take a bath..  I hope everyone has a great labor day weekend and stay safe..

And you tell me you read my blog ? First off, join my contest, and remember why I am having it. To lose a pound you need to eat 3500 less calories per week than you body needs to live, plus exercise calories. News to you ? Wonder why I keep telling you these things? Hmmm

Yes, a pound is 3500 calories. To lose a pound of fat, you need to take in 3500 fewer calories than you need to live, minus calories burned through exercise.

Some calorie counters get all up in the geeky, mathematical fun of it all, computing deficits and adding back in when so many are burned and so on.

I just stay in a certain range, burn more with exercise and call it good. Too much math makes my brain implode. lol

If you want to get really mad, go read up on how many calories exercise burns.

Cutting too much on your calories is not such a good idea. Your body will get adjusted to it and your metabolism will slow down. You'll end up eating less and losing the same or even worse losing less than you did while eating more.

Oh and don't forget that 3500 calories is equal to 1 pound of fat, but we don't lose just fat, we lose some muscle mass and water. It's not that straight forward.

Enjoy your melons and have a great holiday weekend :)

I know why the vinegar diet works! If you have a tablespoon of vinegar with each meal, you don't want to eat!

That is absolutely true about the fat tissue-brown and white adipose are different in function: Easily burn-able and not so easily burn-able. Animals like mice, who are super active, still have fat but it is mostly brown adipose, and even with a super high fat diet (called a 'Western diet'), it is VERY hard to put fat on a mouse, raise their cholesterol, and give them atherosclerosis. So take it from mice-brown is good! I knew I liked chocolate for some reason-haha.
