Saturday 09-11-10 - Remembering...

Great day on my eating and exercise.  I rode Merlin (my bike) for the first time and it was wonderful.  It was also harder than I thought it was going to be.  I got all my chores out of the way and got on Merlin and off I went.  Okay, maybe I should have checked all the nuts, bolts and screws first.  First problem the handle bars were to loose so I turned around and came back and tighten them up and I was off again.  Second problem the seat was to high, but I lived with it for this first ride.  I was so excited and I could just see my self riding along wind blowing in my hair, you know the whole bit.  Well about a 1/2 mile down the road, my thighs were burning and I was breathing hard.  I could tell this was going to take some working into, and not as easy as I thought.   I rode for a mile in one direction and turned around and came back and I was give out.  On the way back it started to rain on me and I got soaking wet.  I have decided to make a emergency pack to go in my new basket that I got at Walmart to go on the back of Merlin.  I am going to carry a water bottle, first aid kit and a gun, yep I said gun.  Have you every come up on a diamond back rattler on a bike, well let me tell ya it is not a fun experience.  I hauled ass in the opposite direction and decided that since it was raining anyway it was time to go back to the trailer.   Okay I am a big chicken, cluck... cluck..   Snakes scare the hell out of me and as far as I am concerned they have the right of way.    I am in love with my bike though and plan to ride it on the weekends every chance I get until I can ride all the way to the park and back.  I checked the mileage and it is 4 miles in one direction to the park.  I hope before deer season is over in February to pack a lunch and make that trip.  I am going to have hubby take a picture of me on Merlin in the morning and it will be on tomorrows post.

Supper tonight is a Weight Watchers recipe, and it is a stew made with Pork loin.  You brown the meat in olive oil spray with a whole onion.  You put this in a crock pot and add one can of pinto beans that you drain and rinse off, along with a cup of corn, whole red bell pepper, one pack of low sodium chili mix and a can of hominy.  Along with some other spices and this cooks all day, and so far it smells wonderful.   You can have 1-1/2 cups for 7 points and it is a whole meal.  I am all into cooking different things these days and I have several new Weight Watchers cook books.

I am going to go and read some of today's post, but before I go I would like to remember where I was on 9-11.   I was working for myself then, and I was on my way to a client's office to do their payroll when it come over the radio that one of the twin towers in New York had been hit.  I went into the clients office and he had it on the TV and that's as far as I got most of the day.  I sat right there with him and several of his workers, who he let stay there to watch.  So I would like to thank all of the men and women who are in our arm forces that allow us to live in this free country of ours.    GOD BLESS THE USA.......

Here is yesterday's food journal and I have a blogger award to give away tomorrow that was given to me after my weigh in.  This I will do tomorrow...  Have a great night...

Glad to hear you & merlin are off to a good start. Handle bars & seat adjustments and all, I'm sureit willall come together as you ride more. Snakes, yeah, I recommend you avoid riding with snakes. We wouldn't want them to take abite out of you or merlin.

Have a good weekend, Never Forget!

Hey Debbie,

Takes a while to get used to a new bike. With a little work, you'll be riding to the park and back with no problem. Then it will be 8 miles ONE WAY!! And as it goes....Just keep at it.

My longest trip so far was 28 miles. It was a blast!!!

Bike riding is great exercise and you get to see a lot. Well the snake thing is not so great, but it's great being on the road!!!

Hugs!

Good on you for biking DESPITE all those little setbacks! And yeah, you don't want to mess with snakes... I'm from Eastern Canada so we don't have any venemous/poisenous ones down here but they still give me the heebie-geebies whenever I run into one unexpectedly.

That recipe sounds yummy!
