Tuesday August 24, 2010

Time flies by these days on me so fast.  I can hardly believe that I have been on Weight Watchers 8 weeks.   So far I have done pretty good, I did not get to exercise yesterday even though I had plan to.  Our son Matt came over with Isaac our grandson and we were occupied with them.  Then my sister came over for a while so it was busy and then we ate supper.  Like I said time goes by.   Where I am going with the time goes by thing is, that is seems like only yesterday I could eat anything I wanted to and not gain any weight.  I was super thin in my teens and super active I guess.  I do remember having a healthy appetite though.  I grew up on country cooking and everything cook from scratch.   Then of course I jumped straight into processed foods and I think that's when my weight gain started.   I did a comparison cooking test last night on some macaroni and cheese.  I made some Kraft macaroni and cheese from the mix and then some homemade from scratch using low fat cheese and white wheat macaroni.  My homemade from scratch version had about half the calories and fat.   My hubby loved it, and I did not do anything but taste it.    So I am going to buy me a Weight Watchers cook book this week and start making a few things from scratch and see how I do.

Stress is another topic of mine today.  My stress runs in several levels, from serious to mildly upset.  Last night it was on the verge of I am going to have a nervous breakdown.  My hubby waits until we are in bed to tell me that he may be without a job for a couple of months.  Okay I ask when did you know this might happen.  Here is what made me want to smother him with a pillow.  My hubby is a project supervisor for a mechanical plumbing company.  He is their top hand and should not be getting laid off or at least you would think.  It seems they are going to be between jobs for a couple of months and hubby volunteered to take off for a couple of months.  We have money in savings so it is not like we can not pay our bills, but come on..   He said he needs some time off due to his stress levels.  I have never taken off 2 months in the whole 18 years we have been together so to say I did not understand would be an understatement.   So I got no sleep last night and got out of bed at 2 AM and went into the kitchen.  Guess what the first place I went to was the frig..  Yep old habits are hard to break and when I am stressed out I want something to eat.  Oh and we have all kind of snacks due to hubby's sweet tooth so my choices were endless.  What did I do?  I shut that damn frig and went back to bed.   No stress eating for me..     This economy sucks and seems to be getting worse everyday.

Question for everyone?  How is the economy in your area and are you feeling the effects of it.  If so what have you done to cut back on expenses?

Here is yesterday's food journal and thanks for listening to me rant and rave this morning.

You had a breakfast bagel. How delicious. And on the plan also. 20 % of your points went to the bagel. Must have been awesome.. You could have had 5 cups of watermelon, or and extra cup of rice, or another cup of frozen yogurt.. But bagels are delish.,

Love ya

Amazing job walking away from the fridge last night!!

The economy stinks everywhere right now. CO is supposed to be one of the best places to be and we've been lucky so far but we don't have the cushion it sounds like you guys have. So if my husband or me had to go without working for a couple of months it would be a disaster!

Allan had it right though. If you had traded 2 cups of watermelon for the bagel, you could have had 3 more cups as that night time snack and still had the same points.

But I am pretty sure that if it were physically possible for me to eat the bagel - I'd choose the bagel every time. ;)

BTW - I really like that you post your food journals each day. It holds you accountable and it shows other people who may not be members of WW how they could succeed as well.

I'm so proud of you and your good choices! Keep up the good work!

As for hubby, try not to punch him. I know it sounds like fun, but they tend to hit back much harder.

Why not take out your frustrations on Allan instead?
