I started thinking last night as I was planning our vacation that the world is built for skinny people. We are thinking about going to Gatlinburg in May and meet our son and daughter-inlaw with our grandchildren there and I was looking at some of the things to do. We want to go to Dollywood and a few other places, but the rides at Dollywood are setup for skinny people, slim people or normal people for a better word to call people not overweight. For those of us who are overweight and would like to ride one of the rides at any amusement park, you will find one of two things. (1) No seat that will fit you so that the safety bar will close. (2) They have larger seats and manage to point it out to you over the loud speaker, and this is embarrassing as hell let me tell you. Some young guy gets on the speaker and you hear this.. the lady that needs the extra large seat it is row number 14, and please set in the middle. Give me a break...
Oh and take a cruise this is so much fun and I love it, but the doors into the cabins are like 20 inchs wide unless you get a handicap room. Public bathrooms are another thing they are so small that you have a hard time turning around in them so I always head for the handicap one. Resturants they always take you to a booth and I look at them like they are crazy, do I look like I will fit in the 16 inch space to you. I use to try and fit into them just to keep from being embarrassed. Not anymore I always ask for a table now so I am comforatable.
Last but not least is when I go to the doctors office and I have to have a test done and they give me a hospital gown that would not fit my leg, most of all me. This is the one I dislike the most, because then the send you down a hall to wherever you have to go and I am trying to hold the gown together and walk.
Does anyone else have anything to add about living in a skinny world I would love to hear it.

I've had the ride problem with my chest being to big to fit under the bars that go over your chest to hold you on roller coasters. My biggest pet peeve is airplanes sure you can put the arm rest up if you have a nice person next to you, but even then you have to combat the minimal leg room, not to mention the seat belt! Sad thing is the airlines just keep shrinking the size of their seats!
I've heard Dollywood is fun!
Not just for skinny... but for average heights too. My husband is 6' 4" and that sometimes poses problems. As does my petiteness.
Just clothes in general. I had to go get a new skirt last night and I was in the dressing room and totally popped some seams!! I probably should have bought the skirt, but I just left it in the dressing room.... oops. But seriously, skinny people can wear any style, any outfit, and look amazing. I hate dressing for my (round, and big butted)'shape'.
Oh man I hear ya. Last year I took the kids to our local amusement park and as I sat down in the seat I thought " If I were any bigger I would not have fit" How embarassing would that be!!
Then this week I had to go to the "girl" doctor and they give me a cloth blanket to cover my body with. WTF!! Those things should come in sizes. They are for sure not one size fits all. My butt was hanging out for anyone to see. Which if it were a cute butt I wouldn't mind, but.... its not. So I was bothered by it.
Businesses need to be more sensitive to everyone's needs.
Girl, I have a whole entry formulated on this on. I hear ya. Loud and clear.
Train and bus seats in every city I've lived in or visited. Urrrgghh!!!
