Saturday April 30th, 2011 - Beautiful Morning at Deer Camp..

We had a great time at the casino last night and I actually won $180.00 can you believe that.  I was so excited and ready to go with my money.  The food was great and I did pretty good on my eating although I did have a small piece of cheese cake.  I stayed with veggies and a couple of grilled ribs, oh and a small piece of pizza.  Our son and his wife came over and met us with our grandson so it was fun.

We are going to ride down and check out the Mighty Mississippi river before we leave today.  They are expecting it to get to around 60 feet in the next couple of weeks so all the people in low areas are bracing for a flood.  Our trailer is way above flood waters so we do not have anything to worry about with our deer camp, but a lot of them will be flooded before this is over.

I was asked by Tim what is a deer camp so here is the best explanation that I can come up with for him.  My husband is a big deer hunter and he hunts from October through the end of January every year.  We have 40 acres and a mobile home in Port Gibson, Mississippi that we go to every weekend for him to hunt.  We also lease another 500 acres for our deer camp which is made up of about 20 people who hunt like he does.  We have a couple of mobile homes that the guys stay in during the hunting season.  There is a limit on how many deer one man can kill in the state of Mississippi and it is 8.  We have our meat processed into sausage or burger every year.  For all of you on Weight Watchers deer burger is the ultimate lean burger cause there is no fat added to our meat.   Here are some pictures of our trailer and the back yard at our place in Port Gibson, Mississippi.  We love going down on the weekends just to relax and fish in the summer.  We built a pond a few years ago and stocked it with fish.

So as you can see it is home away from home.  Have a great and healthy weekend.

It looks very nice and sounds like fun. My dad and brothers used to deer hunt but dad is gone and my brothers don't have time anymore.

Thanks for that Debbie! I had a vague idea of what it was but it's nice to know for sure now. It's interesting to see other peoples hobbies, especially when it's so different to what I do.

I had deer and red cranberry sausages the other day. Sooooo good! :)
