Treadmill Nightmare....

Everyone is not going to believe this story when you hear it.  I went shopping for a treadmill starting Friday and the prices floored me.  So I looked on Craigslist and found several, but could not get in touch with anybody.  About 5 years ago, I purchased a used treadmill in Georgia when we went out to see our kids.  I only used in about 6 months because it was on the porch and it was either to hot or to  cold so we gave it away.   I got to thinking about it Saturday and called to see if my friend that I gave it to still have it.  Yes they did and I could have it back if I wanted it.  So we go and get it and my hubby and I get this thing in the house and into the back bedroom that I have my wii in.  I clean it up and turn it on and it comes on fine.  I am so excited, I get up at 4:30 this morning and put on my walking shoes and turn on my radio and turn on the treadmill.  It starts off okay, but all of a sudden it takes off like a bat out of hell.  I slam into the wall behind me and fall over the computer desk knock my laptop off and the treadmill starts smoking and making this god awful racked.  Freckles is barking and snapping at it, my husband comes running out of the bedroom in his underwear.  I am not hurt, but it was embarrassing as hell.   I was just trying to save some money and I should have just went and brought myself a new treadmill.    So I am back to square one and shopping for a treadmill.  Sears here I come...

Sorry for not posting Friday, I had a rough day at work and it was so busy all day.  I tried to post from home on Sunday but could not get a fast enough connection.   I had a great weekend overall and stayed on course with my diet.  I walked and worked on my wii.  I wanted to go swimming, but it rained Sunday and we were at Deer camp on Saturday.  I did get a good walk in though and really enjoyed it.  I waited until dusk and it was nice, still hot but not unbearable.  We are catching hell here in the South with the heat.  It is going to be 100 here today with the heat index of 107.   Not really good walking weather..

I have done pretty good with my eating the last few days, and it seems to be getting easier.  I take my point counter with me to the grocery store and check the points on everything.  I could not find any decent cantaloupes so I ended up with another watermelon.  These should also be playing out soon.  I am looking at other fruit though.  I can get grapes pretty much year around and strawberries also.  Pineapple is pretty good it just burns my mouth.  I wonder if I could wash it before I eat it?   Someone let me know if this will take away from the flavor or not.

Okay her are my food journals for Friday, Sat, and Sunday.  Now I have to go and read what  everyone has been posting since Friday.  I missed not being able to post or read what everyone is doing.  See ya later...

Before you buy a treadmill for a fortune, walk around outside. It is free and easy... Diet looks great..I hate some of your food choices, but I love that you are rocking the plan.

OMG!! You poor thing...the treadmil from hell! I'm glad you aren't hurt.

I'm also a fan of walking outdoors but it's just too hot here in the summer during the day and walking alone at night isn't such a great idea for me. So I joined a gym near my house for $10.00 a month so I can walk there.

Great job staying on plan!

Walking outdoors is great as long as the weather cooperates, but the Walk It Out Wii game is so much fun you don't even realize you're walking after a while. It's hard to find in stores, but you can order it online.

Treadmills are definitely more trouble than they are worth in my book. Dangerous and space-hogging monsters!

That sucks about the treadmill! I'm glad you are all right. I agree with the other commenters walking outside is a great option. You might also wanna check out Leslie Sansones (sp?) Walk at Home videos. They have them on youtube so you can stream them for free, it def beats walking around out in the heat!

A similar thing happened to me on a treadmill once. I can relate!

I have a little phobia now and choose to walk outside whenever I can instead.

Great job on the food diaries!

Oh my gosh! Attack of the killer treadmill. I am so glad that you weren't hurt or burned your house down.

I hope that you find the right model for you.

While I agree that walking outdoors is lovely and free, it isn't always doable. Weather extremes can keep one inside, sometimes when you can walk isn't workable for going outside and let's face it, not everyone lives where there is good terrain for walking. I wouldn't mind having a nice treadmill, myself for days when the weather is bad or what have you. :D

I don't really see any problems with your food choices. You are on track for your plan and you are enjoying your food, too.

ACK!! I am so sorry this happened to you. So glad you are OK. That could have been a very bad situation!! Whew!!

I am really kind of afaid of my treadmill. It's up against the wall (because I don't have a lot of room) and I'm afaid that if I fall, I will be caught between the TM and the wall, with the stupid thing still running and rubbing the flesh off of my body. YIKES!! Your story makes me what to move it to a better location! Hugs!

Oh my gosh, that treadmill story cracked me up! In fact, I'm at home on a conference call and had to mute my phone so they couldn't hear me laughing. :) Too funny.

Great job on the two pound loss. Awesome!

About buying a new treadmill, I wish you lived near me because I'd give you mine. We bought it five years ago, a very nice Nordic Track for $1,200 (on sale). Plus we bought the five-year extended warranty for another $200. My husband has used it maybe three times, me about ten times...in five years. It's now sitting in the garage taking up room and collecting dust. Everytime I look at it I just kick myself. Talk about a waste of money.

If you do buy one, buy a used one. There are tons of treadmills out there that are barely used and cheap. Heck, I'd pay someone to haul ours away!

I do better exercising at the gym, or by myself outdoors (walking, hiking, biking).

I know you live where it gets really hot (Mississippi) so probably walking outside isn't an option during the summer. So maybe a treadmill would be a really good option for you. Just make sure you get a good deal. :)

How scary, it could have been much worse! Something like that happened to me on vacation once, I was using a hotel tread alone and it suddenly went like crazy too. I was running, but I knew I couldn't go like that for long. I was yelling for my hubby and kids who were at the pool in the next room, no luck. I ended up getting the emergency button to work, but it was awful. So happy you aren't hurt! Good luck shopping and way to go on rockin' the plan!

NSV! You tumbled and were not hurt!

I remember that you live waaay out in the country and there are things lurking in the dark at 4:30 a.m. I still say get the treadmill. I think you will find a reasonably priced one at Sears, and it's a good investment for your health.

glad you weren't hurt. I spent about $500 on my treadmil from Costco. I use it EVERY morning for only 20 minutes, but it makes a huge difference.

home equipment is so flipping expensive (and when i got mine I COULD NOT AFFORD. charged and took about 3 years to pay off :))---but so so so worth it.
I love getting my cardio done at the CRACK of dawn and not having to leave the house.

Oh no! I'm glad you didn't get hurt! I also have to be very careful on the treadmill. They are expensive. I'd like to purchase one or a spin bike if we don't stay in our community when we have to move. We have a gym clubhouse with all sorts of lovely machines.
